Duomo di Bergamo

The Sant'Alessandro Cathedral is the main place of Catholic worship in the city of Bergamo, the mother church of the homonymous diocese.
It is dedicated to Sant'Alessandro patrono di Bergamo and is located in the upper town, in Piazza del Duomo, next to the Palazzo della Ragione and the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.

The cathedral that was born with the devotion to San Vincenzo, changed its title when the church of Sant'Alessandro, reputed the place of the martyrdom of the saint, in 1561 was destroyed by the Venetians for the construction of the Venetian walls.

The Cathedral of Sant'Alessandro Martire stands out as a tangible sign of a presence that has lasted for centuries, in a scene full of culture, nature and ancient traces that has always distinguished the city of Bergamo. At the top there is a powerful figure of his knight, Saint Alexander, the protector who guards his inhabitants with his vigil vigil.
The discoveries that came to light on the occasion of the excavations carried out in 2004 in the basement of the cathedral of Bergamo have yielded an unpublished archaeological documentation that suggests the revival and updating of the same history of the city and its ancient religious center.
The Cathedral of Bergamo is home to numerous artifacts that over the centuries have made up its treasure that we can admire today.
